The one with the Q&A
Oh hi.
I’m a traditionally published author with six novels out in the world that span both YA and adult. I’ve been published by Hachette - a Big Five publisher, Faber - a venerated independent publisher, and Hot Key - (what was back then) a buzzy brand new publisher. I have been on book tours in different countries. I’ve spoken at every festival and convention going, including Comic Cons and literary giants like Hay. I’ve had book events where one person turned up, and book events where I spoke to an auditorium of hundreds. I’ve experienced six-figure, multiple-country bidding wars over one of my books, and experienced a straight fourteen rejections and then one single taker for another. I have had books shopped for the screen with very high profile Hollywood names attached, and books optioned for decent money that have (so far) gotten no traction. I’ve had six figure income years and four figure income years.
I worked for three years in one of the biggest book shops in the UK, helping out with what was then a fabulous events program. I met a lot of authors and got drunk with a few of them - some of them very famous. One of them had murdered someone.
I also spent twelve years in publishing, working with a Big Five publisher, cutting my teeth as assistant on campaigns for authors like Stephen King and John Grisham, and then managing marketing for a YA publishing list that had names like Leigh Bardugo and The Vampire Diaries on it. I’ve marketed countless debuts, huge brand books, legacy authors, and mid-list writers who had been going for decades without a breakout.
I spent several years being a published author and holding down a full time job. Then I spent several years being a full time author.
Ask me anything :)
